At most an inmate will be in the Helena Jail for around 72 hours or 3 days. Inmates will then be transferred out to the Lewis and Clark County Jail for a longer-term holding pen.

Inmate Search
The Helena Jail as we previously talked about is a short-term holding pen for inmates who have been arrested in and around the Helena City. With people getting arrested daily and people also leaving the Helena Jail Daily, it is hard for the facility to keep an up to the minute updated roster for the general public to search through.
This is the prime reason why the Helena Jail does not have their inmate roster available to the public. If you have questions or are looking for someone in the Helena Jail, you will need to get in contact with facility with your questions, comments, and concerns.
Sending a Mail
Again, as we previously talked about the Helena Jail is not a long-term holding facility for inmates. Inmates are in and out of the facility quickly.
With, you are not permitted to send inmates packages, handwritten letters, or cash because by the time they would get these items they would not be in the Helena Jail any longer.
Please do not send any of these above items to the Helena Jail as it will not be given to the inmate. It will not be forwarded to the inmate. It will be sent back to the original sender.

Phone Calls
The only privilege inmates will have while they are passing the time in the Helena Jail is, they will have the chance to use the telephones.
The telephone system here is not like county, state, or federal prisons. The Helena Jail only allows inmates to make collect calls only. So, if the person the inmate is trying to reach does not have a landline, they will never receive the call.
All calls will be limited to around 15 to 20 minutes depending on how many inmates are currently in the Helena Jail.
You will also need to keep in mind that no phone calls here at the Helena Jail are private. There will always be a Helena Jail staff member that will be listening to all phone calls that are made from the facility. That staff member has the right to disconnect the call at their discretion.
Visiting Rules
Visitation at the Helena Jail is only reserved for the inmate’s legal counsel. Family and friends of the inmates will not be permitted to visit.
