The New York Department of Corrections is a busy Department of Corrections. To be honest, the New York Department of Corrections is probably one of the busier departments considering how many people truly live in New York and the city alone.

Do not get fooled by the name, the New York Department of Corrections takes care of all the New York State. It is not just for the city. They have offices inside and even outside of the city, but within the state limits.

As of early 2020, the New York Department of Corrections has these following buildings in their hands:

• 8 Offices on Rikers Island
• 11 Offices in the state

As you can see these are just offices, these do not really include their state prisons, which are also laid out in all of New York state.

Each year, the New York Department of Corrections will typically have around 49,000 detainees coming through their doors along with having about 9,000 people helping keep the department operating.
