The Oklahoma Department of Corrections was officially made into the department it is today in the 1890. You should note that all of this could not be possible if it was not for their senator who had to approve everything to make this happen.
But, let’s be frank here, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections provides the state many jobs. Many people benefitted from having the department be formed and even to this day many people still benefit from the Department of Corrections in Oklahoma.
However, during the early days, the detainees were only kept in one facility. Why where they kept in only one facility? It was since is all that they had during that time. They had to start building for and more facilities as the years went on to accommodate all detainees. However, in the early days the detainees would be required to pay the facility $0.25 per day that they were in there. This money would then be used for their food, clothing, bedding, and medical care.
