Sending a Mail

The Wharton County Jail inmates are allowed to get written letters in the mail from their family and friends. All letters that are sent to the jail are checked by the jail employees before they are handed out to the inmates.    

The jail employees are looking for items that are not allowed to be sent to the jail. If any forbidden items or offensive letters are sent to the jail, the jail staff will either throw them out or send items back to the sender.

Sending Money

The Wharton County Jail inmates will need funds to make purchases at the commissary. Funds will also be needed in order for inmates to make phone calls to their friends and family.   

Cashier’s checks, money orders, and tax returns are accepted at the Wharton County Jail. Any funds that is being deposited into an inmate's account will need to be payable to the inmate. Phone Calls

The Wharton County Jail inmates are not allowed to get phone calls from their family or friends. During phone time inmates are allowed to make phone calls to their family and friends. The inmates are limited to 15-minute phone calls. The call will get terminated as soon as the 15-minutes is over.  

Calling features such as three-way calling and call forwarding are forbidden for the inmates to use. If an inmate is caught using any of these features the call will get disconnected and disciplinary action will be taken up against the inmate. 

The Wharton County Jail inmates are allowed to only make collect phone calls. You will only be able to receive a collect call from an inmate from a landline phone. However, you will not be able to receive any collect calls from a mobile phone. The individual receiving the collect call is the one responsible for and all fees associated with the collect calls. The Wharton County Jail is not accountable for any and all charges associated with the collect calls.  

Visiting Rules

Inmates in the Wharton County Jail are allowed to get visitors. You will need to find out what the visitation hours are by talking to an inmate if you would like to visit them. Visitation hours are not released by the jail employees for the inmates. You will need to get that information on your own from an inmate.   

Before you are allowed in the visitation area you will need to present your driver’s license, state identification card, or your United States passport. 

Make sure to leave all your personal belongings in your vehicle. Any personal belongings are not permitted in the visitation area.    

The jail has a strict dress code that must be followed when you are visiting. Please refrain from wearing the articles listed below: 

  • Revealing clothing
  • Miniskirts
  • Tanktops
  • See Through clothing
  • Offensive clothing

You will not be allowed in the visitation area if you are wearing any of the forbidden clothing. You will not be allowed to go in the visitation area if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol as well. The jail staff can refuse a visitation for any reason without notice.
