The state government in Virginia is a decently sized government with an even bigger sized Department of Corrections. As of 2020, there are over 12,000 individuals who call the Department of Corrections their employer. Most of these individuals are an officer for them. These officers work in jails and officers. Their main job is to closely work with these offenders.
As previously stated, that most of these people are officers, they can also be parole officers and probation officers as this is a part of the Virginia Department of Corrections jurisdictions as well.
One thing that the Virginia Department of Corrections has been working on slowly but surely over these past few years is that they are trying to lower their rate for reoffending. As of recently, their current rate for re-offenders is at 23.4%. This is an all-time low. They have been successful in lowering their rate for the third year in a row. This is a huge feat for the department as it shows their programs is working to their advantage.
